It is recommended that a veterinarian’s opinion be sought before and during the use of this product in order to determine the needs of your cat.

• Formulation to support renal function in case of chronic kidney disease (CKD)
• Contains EPA and DHA, a complex of antioxidants and a low phosphorus level. During CKD, phosphorus is no longer eliminated effectively by the kidneys. A restriction in phosphorus intake is essential to slow down the development of renal disease
• Feeding a diet with an adapted fish oil (source EPA/DHA) content may help to improve the glomerular filtration rate
• Increased kidney workload may induce uraemic crisis. An adapted content of high-quality protein helps reduce kidney workload. Feeding protein well in excess of the minimum requirements leads to the generation of nitrogen waste products, which accumulate in the body fluids when renal excretory capacities are reduced
• Chronic kidney disease can lead to metabolic acidosis and these diets are formulated with alkalinizing agents. The kidneys are central to the maintenance of acid base balance. As renal function declines, the capacity to excrete hydrogen ions and reabsorb bicarbonate ions is reduced and metabolic acidosis ensues
• The specifically designed aromatic profile helps meet the pets specific preference. Appetite issues including food aversion, anorexia and hyporexia, are common in pets with CKD

Indications

• Azotemic Chronic Kidney Disease (IRIS stage 2 to stage 4)
• Management of calcium oxalate urolith recurrence in cats with impaired renal function
• Prevention of recurrence of urolithiasis requiring urine alkalinisation: urate and cystine uroliths

Contraindications

• Growth, gestation, lactation

Note

• This diet is prescribed for a 6 month minimum period, at the end of which a veterinary check up must be performed
• This diet can be maintained for the cats lifetime

renal care cat food

By: Mary on 11 March 2021My cat needs renal care food. He has no teeth,  so must have soft food. The only food he will eat is the Royal Canin renal chicken and fish pouches. He loves them! I just wish they were not quite so expensive-but he is worth it!(5)

He has had trouble with gaining weight and was struggling to do so with dry food alone. Since this wet food he has gained 1kg under a month, and he can’t get enough of the stuff.(5)

Best buy in renal food

30 May 2014My cat is nearly 19 years old, and was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. She was always an active cat prior to this, but seemed to ‘slow down’ and not be interested in her food. This product was recommended, and since she has been eating it, she is almost back to her previous level of activity. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone considering which renal dietary product to select for their cat.(5)
